A U.S. Department of Commerce spokesman said on Thursday that the Biden administration “has not blocked chip sales to the Middle East,” after reports that Washington had increased the criteria for export licenses for processors with artificial intelligence from Advanced Micro Devices and Nvidia.
Earlier this week, Nvidia disclosed the new guidelines in a regulatory filing. On Wednesday, a source with knowledge of the situation verified that AMD is impacted by the modification.
Regarding whether it had placed additional limitations on certain American businesses, the Commerce Department refused to comment. Both AMD and Nvidia did not immediately respond to calls for comment on Thursday.
